a new beginning awaits...

So today was my very first church camp experience...  Totally worth every minute spent there, can't wait to go back Sunday. It was definitely better then staying at home, or going to my work picnic (which wasn't really an option). I got to see Spencer make friends with kids and adults he's never seen in his life.  It was a beautiful sight. I also noticed something else...when people focus on God, there is no preconceptions or prejudgments made. It's completely unconditional acceptance. This is a lesson I will definitely be repeating in my homeschooling journey.
During the sermon, something came to mind. The lesson was how we are to put God before us and idols behind us. For let us not be as Rachel, who thought bringing her earthly idols back to Canaan would fulfill her, and yet it was Jacob who received blessing. I began to think about all the stuff in my home, all the kids toys, and miscellaneous junk i never use or pay attention to. Is it worth it? Is having two rooms filled with toys for my children teaching them anything? When I see my children cry at the act of a favorite toy being taken away, what are they learning? If someone told my 4 yr old he would never receive God's blessing even after a life of belief, would he cry? Or would he shrug it off? The relationship with God should always take precedence over the relationship we have with things. So as we begin school, I pray I am able to teach Spencer the art of living simply and holy. May I be an example worth following, may my lessons be filled with Christ, and may Spencer only be closer to Christ and farther from his wants of this world.
Tomorrow will be another experience at camp and a day to finish prepping for class on Monday, so lets hope stress does not become a factor in my daily activities!
God bless you all

August 2, 2012

School at my house begins Monday, August 6 2012. I am beyond excited, thrilled, nervous, and scared. I knew from the moment I had Spencer, who is 4, that I wanted to home school. It's never been a question in my mind.  Now the dream is finally becoming a reality. We have decided to use Alpha Omega Publishing Preschool's curriculum. (www.aophomeschooling.org) The whole program is based around the Bible and the teachings of God's word and what better lessons to teach your child. As I've spent the last few days carefully looking over the workbooks, lessons, supply lists, and schedule, I have become even more solidified in my choice of education for my children.

I have no doubt that this will more than be a learning adventure for all of us. Luckily for me, Spencer is very patient and forgiving! I started this blog to share my adventures with all of you and to record this amazing journey my family is about to embark on! There will be pictures, videos, and stories to share no doubt! I am hoping that maybe I can get my fellow home schooler's together so that the kids could put on a program once a year or we could all go on field trips together. The sharing and learning possibilities are endless! So as I pray each night for patience and the ability to be the best teacher I can, I hope to inspire many more of you!
